Sometimes you don’t realise how important something is until you really need it! One of those things for me, is a community. There have been times throughout my life where I have witnessed the positive impact of having a supportive community around. These times were filled with uncertainty, stress and a busy schedule, but something that truly made a difference was the community around my family and I. Now, don’t get me wrong, this community didn’t just appear. It took time. After many prayers, guidance (by the Lord) and EFFORT of getting to know others, we have been blessed with people around us who truly care for us.

Over the years, these groups of people may have changed, but every time, the right people were there for us (and not by luck)! You’ve probably heard of the saying, “it takes a village to raise a child”, well, I think that applies no matter how old you are. A community keeps you accountable, supports you, encourages you, cares for you, prays for you and listens to you. In the chaos of life, you often don’t notice the little ways people care for you, or behind closed doors are praying for you.

A community has the opportunity to become family. To keep you on the right track. And if you feel as though your community is lacking, well then have you been the “community” for someone else? Often you need to be the one that takes the first step (at least that’s how it’s been for me). The Bible tells us to treat others the way we want to be treated (see Bible verse below).

So, look around. Are you fortunate to be blessed with a community? Maybe you didn’t even realise that you have one. Or if you are wanting a community, get involved with those around you. Start the community!

“Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ”. 1 Peter 4:8-10
