Something New Can Change Your Perspective

“Experiencing different cultures is one of the best things a human being can do. It puts your whole world into perspective” Stephanie Gilmore
Oh, just another inspirational quote to stick on the mirror. No, why don’t you read it again? This time, think about why the quote was said in the first place.
Gilmore talks about experiencing, cultures and our perspective of the world. Those three things go hand in hand, and there are many quotes out there that have these three things as underlying themes. Why?
Well, I can only talk about my own experiences and what I’ve heard from others. Learning and experiencing, which can be done at the same time, is how we begin to understand the world a little bit better. You may be thinking, that to experience and learn about other cultures, you need to travel. I get it. Travelling is expensive. However, we can learn about cultures regardless of where we are (though I believe travelling is SO important to do as well). Through trying new things, talking (and listening) to all kinds of people with all kinds of backgrounds, and through education, we can still learn. Why I think this is so important, is because it shapes how we view cultures, people and circumstances. We begin to have a deeper understanding and connection to others, but most importantly, we slowly become more grateful, open-minded and generally have a more positive perspective or outlook on life. We begin to focus on what really matters in life.
It’s surprising (or not surprising) how close-minded we can be and it is something we should always strive to change. So, I encourage you to learn, listen and experience, so we can better ourselves, become less judgemental and more appreciative in life.
“Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too”. Philippians 2:3-4
“Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven”. Luke 6:37
“Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God”. Romans 15:7
