Amsterdam & Surrounds
Our next stop on our 2019 Christmas holiday was the Netherlands. With just one short flight on KLM from Paris, we were now in Amsterdam (the capital city).
Amsterdam is known for its cannels between charming buildings of all shapes and sizes. Much of the Netherlands, looks as if it came out of a fairytale.
Fun fact: there are almost 900 000 bicycles in Amsterdam!
One of the first places we went to in this buzzing city, was PANCAKES Amsterdam, for a delicious meal and cozy drink. Fluffy pancakes, crispy bacon topped with Dutch syrup (or “stroop” as they call it) and warm drink, was the perfect way to start our travels in the Netherlands.
Our next stop was the famous Madame Tussauds (Dam 20, 1012, Amsterdam). It was so fascinating seeing the very realistic sculptures!
Exploring and shopping in Amsterdam:
While we were in the Netherlands, we wanted to explore some towns/cities outside of the busy capital (Amsterdam). To get to these places we travelled via train, bus or tram. Luckily, they were all pretty close to each other.
We visited; Edam (famous for its cheese of course), Marken, Hoorn, Leiden, Den Haag, Rotterdam, Voldendam and Delft (known for its delicate, blue and white pottery). [see turquoise circles on the map to the right].
Fun fact: my family has collected Delft pottery for many years!
We loved seeing all the cute, traditional homes/stores… it looked like a fairytale!
