What To pack to Hawaii in Winter
Do I pack Summer or Winter clothing? Here’s a packing guide…
Hawaii is known for it’s beaches, warm weather and tropical food. So how cold does it really get in Winter? Will I get cold? Should I still pack my swimwear?
Here is a packing guide, based on my experience in Hawaii during December.
Absolutely! Even though the ocean may not be as warm as it is during Summertime, you should not miss out on dipping your toes in the Hawaiian waters. In my experience, it was still warm enough to enjoy a sunny day on the beach. Just be careful with those rough Winter waves (especially on the North Shore)!
Swimwear?
I would say, pack “Summer” items for your main outfits, but pack a few warmer options to mix and match with, for example, flowy long pants, cardigans and a light jacket/hoodie.
A raincoat or windbreaker may be useful, as it can rain often (even though it’s still warm).
Clothing:
It’s an island people! I suggest you pack at least one pair of flip-flops and/or sandals.
I would also pack one pair of closed shoes, such as comfortable sneakers, to walk around and explore in.
Water shoes is important if you want to protect your feet from cuts and bruises at the beach. However, these can be bought from local stores in Hawaii.
Shoes:
Hat
Sunglasses
Beach towel
Anklet? Why not add some island vibes to your outfit?
A reusable water bottle (or you could buy one in Hawaii).
Camera (even if it’s just your phone)
Tote bag for shopping. Fabric totes hardly take-up any space in your luggage, as they can easily roll up.
Accessories:
Here are a few other essentials I suggest you pack or buy for Hawaii.
Reef-safe sunblock.
Water shoes (I know it may seem silly, but trust me, if you don’t want cuts on your feet, then water shoes are the way to go. These are sold in various shops in Hawaii).
Waterproof bag for the beach. If your bag gets wet and/or sandy from, you can quickly dry it off before packing it back in your suitcase.
Plug adaptors - if you are coming from overseas, remember to buy US adaptors.
Hygienic products (the usual travel essentials), such as a face mask, hand sanitiser, disinfectant wipes and tissues.
